The beautifully designed Satechi Wireless Charging Pad integrates a ‘one solution wireless dock’ for charging any iPhone 8 or later, wireless AirPods or AirPods Pro, and an Apple Watch simultaneously.
During the Apple Event on September 12, 2017 we got a glimpse into the future of wireless charging as they announced the up and coming multi-device wireless charger that they named AirPower. Not having to plug all our different devices into multiple outlets sounded wonderful. But after almost 3 years, it seems like that announcement was way too early for Apple and consequently disappointed a lot of potential customers for this product. Satechi decided this was something they not only could match, but could raise the bar and make it better than that first reveal. Satechi included a two position Apple Watch charger, that has been approved by Apple. We can lay our watch flat or it flips up to take advantage of night stand mode. This mode makes the Apple Watch appear more like a night time alarm clock. What an ingenious idea!
Design and Features
The Satechi Wireless Charging Pad has a gorgeous slim design that is matte black on top and bottom with space gray sides. It measures at 4.53 x 8.66 x 0.51 inches and weighs 13 ounces. It’s mainly plastic with metal edges, keeping it smooth to the touch all around without harsh edges, and hides fingerprints pretty well. The four rubber feet on the bottom stops it from easily moving around any surface. It has one single USB Type C port on the back for power only, and includes a 3.3 foot USB-C cable and a 24-watt wall block that powers the unit with US, EU and UK adapter heads for countries using their respective outlets. These are all included inside the box.
The area dedicated for AirPods and AirPods Pro is contoured to fit either case to keep them from moving around. Wireless charging for the original AirPods will only work with the wireless charging case that would need to be purchased separately. On the right side they have included a circular rubberized stamp to easily identify the best placement for your iPhone. This keeps it from moving around, and confirms the location of the Qi spot itself on the charging pad. It can charge through cases under 5mm thick, which is about the thickness of 2 nickels and 1 penny stacked on top of each other. So that is a pretty thick case.
All three devices are charged wirelessly at the same time, so you won’t hit the same charging speeds that would occur through a physical cord but it’s definitely fast enough to charge all 3 devices at very low battery overnight and be ready in the morning. Satechi has a faint logo branding on the top of the device which is not easily noticeable unless light hits it just right.
Another multi-intuitive crucialfeature Satechi included is the ability to detect foreign objects that are not to be charged sitting on the pad accidentally, and an auto temperature controlled power protection feature that will cutoff the power to the charger when needed. This will keep your Apple devices safe from getting overheated or getting charged too much. Monitoring the temperature not only keeps our devices safe, but alsoensures that the charger is safe to use. At the front of the device, there are 3 tiny LED lights that will softly glow white for each device that is charging and will turn off when it’s finished so it doesn’t overcharge. This is a nice touch because it directly shows lights for each device being charged and which one may need to be nudged a little to make sure it has power going to it if no light is showing.
Final Thoughts
When you look at all the different products that Satechi offers, you will notice they are all streamlined and sleek. They follow closely to the aesthetic of greatness and reflects a minimal design that will never go out of style. The Trio Wireless Charging Pad stays with that same desired look and flows greatly with all the other devices you will have near it. Given its compact, lightweight design, it’s perfect for home use and taking on trips. Although it’s a bit pricey, I would definitely recommend this charging pad if you have at least 2 of the 3 devices it charges. We hoped for the AirPower charging station and got something some would call better.
Excellent Product 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The Satechi Trio Wireless Charging Pad is priced at $119.99 and can be purchased directly from Satechi as well as on Amazon.
