Review: Sennheiser CX True Wireless – Outstanding sound. Without compromises

Today I’m going to introduce you to the new CX True Wireless headphones from Sennheiser. Sennheiser is committed to maintaining their promise to the world surrounding audio. Perfect Sound, Without Compromise. Let’s dive in!

The headphones are delivered in a simple, white packaging with blue applications. The headphones are seated inside the enclosed charging case, which looks simple and honestly a little too big for my taste. The mechanism for opening and closing works very well and the entire unit feels like its made of high quality.

The included ear tips are available in the following sizes:

  • A pair of XS
  • A pair of S
  • A pair of M
  • A pair of L

I use size S for the left ear and size M for the right side.

Side Note

The sound of these headphones will be individual for everyone. This is my personal impression. It’s not a “professional” review of the headphones as you would expect from an audio company.

The headphones are 100% wireless. They are shaped in an angular style with curved edges. Both have markings on the inside for left and right ear to easily and quickly know which ear they fit in. The Sennheiser logo is directly in the front of each earbud as well. Both headphones have two microphones, one on the top and one on the side.

Before using the charger for the first time, the protective film must be removed from the charging contacts. The headphones can be easily removed from the case and click perfectly back into it when inserted (magically). A well-resolved concept.

There is a small LED on the inside of the headphones themselves. When removing each one from the case, the LED lights up red and changes to blue after a connection with the end device is made.

The customizable touch controls enable audio settings, phone calls and quick access to Siri and Google Assistant, simply via the Sennheiser Smart Control app. The CX True Wireless also offers splash protection according to the protection class of IPX4.

Appearance and structure of the CX true wireless

The Sennheiser CX true wireless is available in both white and black. I am currently testing the black variant. The color of the headphones and the case is matte black. The frame around the opening of the case has a glossy finish. The USB-C port for charging is located on the back of the case. A USB-C to USB-A cable is included in the scope of delivery.

Portability / feel-good factor

At first, wearing the headphones felt strange in my ears. In fact the headphones completely fill the auricle and thus contribute to better wearing comfort and better durability in the ear. Secondly and most importantly, the low weight and ergonomic design ensure maximum comfort after the right position in your ear is secured.

Sound experience

The dynamic 7mm transducer made in Germany with TrueResponse technology and extensive audio codex support including AAC, aptX and SBC via Bluetooth 5.2 guarantees excellent sound quality. The custom-made TrueResponse driver guarantees crystal clear sound of the highest quality.

The bass is very dynamic and has the perfect balance of lows and highs. Maximum volume (when listening to Apple Music and on an iPhone 11 Pro) were possible without any problems. The additional bass boost and the integrated equalizer, which you can control via the Sennheiser app, allow you to customize the sound for your personal best experience.

As a result, Sennheiser has convinced me one more time. With the CX True Wireless you get an excellent product at a fair price. Very good sound quality, excellent bass even at high volumes. When this review was published, the CX True Wireless cost € 129.00 in the German Sennheiser store. A good and reasonable price for these types of high quality headphones.
