Review: Logitech’s G502 HERO – The New Heroic Budget Gaming Mouse
Logitech, one of the best electronics manufacturing brands, has produced another great mouse fit for the everyday gamer. If you haven’t bought a gaming mouse yet, the Logitech G502 HERO is a great buy or upgrade if you’re planning on upgrading your gaming gear. With its ergonomic design, style, and specs, it deserves to be your new go-to! This versatile unit has everything you need to level up your productivity and gaming.
Think it’s time to upgrade to a new high-end wired gaming mouse? Then let’s take a deep dive into its specifications, from the design to its price.
As a gaming mouse, we can definitely say that its design is quite slick. It’s highly suited for everyday and gaming use because of its ergonomically-shaped body. A height of 132 mm (5.20 inches), a width of 75 mm (2.95 inches), and a depth of 40 mm (1.57 inches), it’s the perfect size for adult-sized hands. However, since it’s slightly bulky, it’s not easily suited for those who have smaller hands.
As for the weight, it’s quite lightweight. As it only weighs 121 g (0.27 lbs.), you’d have no problem moving it around your desk, making gaming and computer tasks easier to do with faster navigation.
Speaking of weight, it has a unique tunable weight feature, which means that you can configure the weight under the mouse to optimize your game experience.
Finally, the length of the cable that comes with the mouse is about 2.1 m (6.89 ft), so if your CPU is located in a tricky location, then you can definitely navigate that cable around and easily have a good reach from the CPU USB port to your desk.
As mentioned earlier, when it comes to the ergonomic shape, it will fit nicely in your hand. It also features a thumb rest, making long workdays and gaming sessions comfortable and manageable. The placements of the other buttons found on the mouse are also conveniently placed so you won’t accidentally press them as you’re playing or working on your projects.
You can only get the G502 HERO in black, however, with Logitech’s collaboration with League of Legends, there’s also a K/DA skin if you’re a fan of the game! It features a very cool white with simple black lines and K/DA type on the top buttons, creating a very futuristic and unique look. Of course, if you’re the simple type, you can never go wrong with pure black.
And of course, as with all RGB gaming mice, you can always have the option of changing the color of the lights in your mouse. From the default Logitech blue, to red, pink, yellow, or even green. You can easily customize this with the LIGHTSYNC technology that comes with the mouse.
The features mentioned will mostly require the Logitech G HUB software, as a lot of these will be programmable (e.g. buttons). And if you’re worried about the settings not saving, don’t worry – the software has a memory bank that allows your mouse settings to be saved.
One of the best features of this gaming mouse is the eleven (yes, that many) programmable buttons located around the mouse. All of which are programmable for your everyday-computer needs. You can easily change them up with Logitech’s G HUB, so you’ll have no problem getting things done. From in-game hotkeys to even office macros, these are all easily applicable with the software provided.
On-The-Fly DPI and DPI Shift
Aside from the programmable buttons, you can also cycle through five DPI settings with a single click. Three DPI indicator lights will tell you which setting you’re on. These will also be easily customizable with the Logitech G HUB, or you can always use the default settings out-of-the-box.
Other than the cycling DPI settings, you can also shift through high to low sensitivity with another button. Use the DPI Shift button, which is conveniently placed on the left side of the mouse. By holding the button down, you can quickly transition to sniper-precision targeting. Again, this is also changeable with the G HUB.
Dual-Mode Hyper-Fast Scroll Wheel
Another very helpful feature this gaming mouse has is the dual-mode hyper-fast scroll wheel. You can simply switch and lock between hyper-fast scrolling, or you can have single-precision scrolling. Either way, you will get the most out of your mouse when you’re surfing the web, scrolling through the MS Excel pages, or going through your in-game inventory.
As mentioned, the tunable weight helps you optimize your gaming experience. The G502 HERO includes five weights, each weighing 3.6 g (0.00793664 lbs.). The weights are easily configurable, varying from the front, rear, left, right, and centered weighted configurations. The more you play around with the weights, the more you’ll be able to find the most suitable weight for your mouse use.
The mouse sports an Optical (LED) sensor with the HERO 25K and a minimum resolution DPI of 100 DPI to 25,600 DPI. Each adjustment step, as you change it with the DPI shift, will be in 50 DPI increments, and a DPI variation of about 3%. The minimum lift-off distance would be about 1.2 mm (0.05 inches) so you won’t have to worry about accidentally hovering your cursor somewhere else. And finally, the maximum polling rate is at 1000 Hz.
Since it’s quite a high-end gaming mouse, it might have come off to be a bit pricey. But since it is a wired gaming mouse, it stands at a price of $38.9. It’s significantly cheaper compared to other gaming mice, especially wireless ones that cost at least $150. Cheaper gaming mice would usually reach $30, and even cheaper if you check the older models. All things considered, this is a great investment as Logitech usually manufactures very durable and long-lasting electronic products.
Coming from Logitech, the G502 HERO is an amazing budget-wired gaming mouse. From the convenient features, it provides to its shape and size. Buying this would save you hundreds because it would last long, as long as you take care of it, of course. If you’re looking to improve your work productivity or optimize your gaming experience, this would be the best option for you. If it’s not for you, however, consider buying this as a gift for your family, your gamer friends, or someone who just needs a much better mouse for their work.
