The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is a car that will provide thrills to any driver. As with any shooting brake, it was designed to give you an engaging driving experience with more practicality. With a new design, a more powerful engine and responsive handling the G70 Shooting Brake puts you in control of the road. The exterior of the car is sleek and modern, with a low-slung profile, distinctive headlights, and a sloping roofline. Inside, the interior is luxurious and comfortable, with high-quality materials, intuitive controls, and plenty of storage – but not a lot of space.

From the moment you get into the sumptuous driver’s seat, you’ll feel the thrill of the road thanks to the low-profile design. If you’re looking for a different performance vehicle with a high-end feel or just a car that looks great, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is a wise choice.

We have reviewed several Genesis models, and this brand continually challenges the old guard with eye-catching design and imperious luxury.

Overview of the Exterior Design

The exterior of the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is designed to be both stylish and aerodynamic. The car has a low-slung profile and sloping roofline – in keeping with the traditions of the ‘Shooting Brake’ which dates back to Victorian England.

The headlight design is distinctive and eye-catching, with very good LED lighting for such a radical arrangement. The rear of the car is also striking, with very little overhang and distinctive Quad Lamps. The dual exhausts on this 2.0L model (should be four), and an integrated diffuser give the rear a sporty look. The exterior is finished off with a range of colours and wheels, although sadly the Black Forest Green on our test car is no longer available.

In terms of construction, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake boasts impressive build quality. It is constructed using durable materials and equipped with a suspension that ensures a comfortable ride while maintaining precise handling. The vehicle is also crafted to be lightweight, featuring an aluminium bonnet and other lightweight components. These features combine to produce a resilient and nimble car that can confidently navigate any road.

Interior Design Features

The interior of the G70 Shooting Brake is designed to be luxurious and comfortable. The seats are very comfortable and upholstered with high-quality leather. The dashboard and centre console are finished in leather and patterned aluminium. The controls are primarily old-school, intuitive and easy to use, and the Lexicon sound system is very powerful. The car has plenty of storage, but the boot space lets the side down with a hatchback feel, associated space, and access limitations. The seats must be folded down to get the golf clubs in.

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake also offers a range of advanced features, including a heads-up display, a rearview camera, and a touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system is easy to use and offers access to Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Additionally, the car has a range of safety features, including blind spot monitoring in the instrument binnacle and lane departure warning. All of these features come together to create an interior that is both luxurious and practical.

Performance Overview

With an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission propelling the rear wheels, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake boasts a 2.0 litre turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine that generates a robust 179kW of power and 353Nm of torque, leaving no room for any missing details. The car also has a range of drive modes, allowing you to tailor the performance to the road conditions or customise several settings to your own preferences.

The G70 Shooting Brake comes with a wide range of cutting-edge technologies such as an adaptive suspension system and torque vectoring. These advanced features work together to enhance the car’s handling and stability, giving you the confidence to take sharp turns. Additionally, the vehicle boasts several driver assistance systems, including active cruise control, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control, which offer a smooth and composed driving experience. With all these features, the G70 Shooting Brake is a sophisticated and sleek car that is perfect for the road.

The Driving Experience

This is a different car to drive. With an engine that lacks low-down grunt, it makes up for it in aggressive torque. The sharp handling will put a smile on your face. The steering is precise, and the suspension is tuned for a smooth and engaging ride. Sport mode does make the ride a little choppy on uneven surfaces, but a quick rotation of the Drive Mode dial back to Comfort, and you’re back to a smoother ride.

When it comes to cornering, the G70 Shooting Brake is a very capable performer. The adaptive suspension system, chassis bracing, supportive seats, and torque vectoring help to keep the car (and driver) planted in corners. The Michelin tyres and Brembo brakes are responsive and resistant to fade when you’re aggressive with them.

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake not ideal for long journeys. Yes, the cabin is comfortable – but cramped in the back. The heated and cooled power leather seats provide excellent support, and the sound system is exceptional. Nonetheless, this vehicle is more suitable for sneaking around town than covering long distances on a highway.

Pros and Cons of the G70 Shooting Brake
The Good Things
  • Great styling – nothing on the road looks like this and
    people notice
  • The build quality is better than some European makers.
  • Super direct steering and a great driving position.
  • An enviable list of standard creature comforts and safety
  • Responsive transmission with drive modes that unlock
    very distinct driving personalities.

The Bad Things
  • It would be superb with the 3.3 litre V6 turbo engine.
    Rear passenger space is limited.
  • The synthesised engine noise in the cabin in Sport mode.
  • Low-profile tyres look great, but the suspension doesn’t
  • It’s a bit thirsty – we saw 14.7L/100km across the nearlv
    300km we drove.

Cost and Value Comparison

The G70 Shooting Brake is not a cheap car, but it is not by any means the most expensive in its class.

BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz offer models that come at a comparable cost, but if you choose to include some additional features, the prices can surge rapidly. Vehicles in this class come with top-notch amenities such as a smooth engine, lavish interior, and a variety of advanced safety features. Thankfully, the G70 Shooting Brake is designed to provide style, comfort, and a smart drivetrain that ensures a smooth and athletic driving experience. Compared to other cars in the same class, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake certainly offers excellent value for money.

The Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is an impressive car that offers an exciting driving experience. The car would benefit from a more powerful engine. However, the responsive handling and luxurious interior make it a great choice. Additionally, the G70 Shooting Brake is very well-equipped, making it easy to enjoy the thrill of the road. Finally, whether you’re looking for an out-of-the-ordinary car with a luxurious feel or just a car that looks great, the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is a great choice.
