If you’re in the market for a portable, speedy storage solution for all your important data, look no further than the Seagate OneTouch external SSD which comes in capacities of 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. How does this mini wonder fare in the face of the competition?
Looking good
Let’s start with the design. Having been born in the BC years (Before Computers), I am still blown away at how tech has evolved and reduced in size. Steve Jobs once said the small pocket on the side of your jeans was for an iPod nano but I think I found another use for it… The Seagate OneTouch measures a minuscule 70 x 50 x 10mm and weighs in at a mere 43g. It’ll easily disappear into any pocket, jeans or otherwise.

The OneTouch is available in a black, metallic blue, or silver finish and has an unusually designed smooth metallic and plastic shell with 2 soft touch textile panels on each side presumably to help you keep a firm grip on to something so small. It’s not a huge point of difference but it’s a nice touch. The shell provides protection against bumps and scratches as the super compact size means there’s a good chance it’ll be in a bag or a pocket with all your other stuff. Other than that, there’s not much to see apart from a single USB C port and a tiny power and data transfer light on the front edge.
In the box, apart from an instruction manual, you’ll get one USB C to USB Type A cable, and one USB C to USB C cable. Again, another nice touch. And talking of connectivity, the OneTouch is compatible out-of-the-box with Windows, Mac, and Android devices.
So how does it work?
It just does. These days, there are no installations to run, just plug in the USB cable and boom you’re up and running. One of the standout features of the Seagate OneTouch is its lightning-fast data transfer speeds. Read and write speeds can be up to 1030MB/s (depending on the corresponding port on the connected device), meaning large files can be transferred in just a few seconds. This makes it perfect for tasks like editing videos, transferring large photo libraries, or even storing and running virtual machines.
Software Extras
But you’re not just buying a small drive. Where the Seagate OneTouch excels is that it includes a range of software tools to enhance your digital lifestyle.
When you connect and mount your OneTouch drive you’ll find the Seagate app (for Mac and PC) already loaded. Double click and you’ll be taken to a Seagate webpage where you can register your new OneTouch and then you’ll be asked if you’d like to redeem some useful software tools. You will find:
The Seagate Toolkit

The Seagate Toolkit software allows you to back up, synchronise your files and folders across multiple devices, and plan automatic backups so you can save your work files to the OneTouch drive automatically without having to buy any extra software. It also gives you immediate access to support and manuals plus it gives you access to Seagate’s data recovery service which might prove to be a lifesaver if everything goes horribly wrong! And in case you were wondering, the OneTouch I was sent has a 3-year warranty so that’s another good to register the drive via the Seagate Toolkit.
Mylio Photos

Seagate has teamed up with Mylio to give OneTouch buyers access to Mylio Photos which is an application that runs on PC’s, Macs, Android & iOS phones and tablets and connects all of your devices into a single photo library. It organises, synchronises and allows you to edit everything (as long as you have enough storage) from one central library without the need to be connected to the internet. All your treasured photos will be safely backed up onto your OneTouch drive.
Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan

And last, but most definitely not least, you’ll have access to 4 months of the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan which will give you access to Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CC. These industry-standard tools will allow you to edit and transform the images stored on the OneTouch drive for work or just for pleasure.
Tiny Yet Huge!
Overall, the Seagate OneTouch 1TB external SSD is a great option for anyone who needs fast and reliable storage while on the go. Its diminutive size, sleek design, and lightning-fast data transfer speeds make it a must-have. The added bonus of useful software tools and subscriptions more than amplifies its impressive features, making it an ideal choice for on-the-go professionals, students, and well, pretty much anyone who needs to access their files quickly and reliably. Seagate has created a complete storage solution.
So If you’re in the market for a high-quality external SSD that you can slip into a pocket, the Seagate OneTouch is definitely worth considering. You can check out the One Touch range of drives here. Or have a look at the One Touch on Amazon here
