If you’ve been looking to spruce up your home with those trendy, glowing wall panels you see all over social media, you’ve probably run into AiDot.
Think of AiDot as the friendly neighbourhood manager for a range of smart home gadgets, making sure everything from your security cameras to your lightbulbs can talk to each other through a single phone app.
Linkind is their specialised lighting brand, famous for making cool, modern lights that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Their newest release, the Linkind Smart Hexagon Panels, promises to turn any boring wall into a colourful masterpiece without breaking your budget—though figuring out how to actually put them up might test your patience, as it did mine.
Modular RGB lighting has taken the tech world by storm, turning plain office walls and gaming setups into futuristic neon sanctuaries. However, industry giants usually charge a hefty premium for this look. Enter the Linkind EP6 Smart Hexagon Panels: a budget-friendly alternative that delivers high-end, per-edge RGBIC illumination without draining your wallet.

While the performance and build quality punch well above their weight, as an early adopter, I initially found the physical setup incredibly frustrating due to a lack of online troubleshooting help. Thankfully, the community has stepped up over the past few months. Pioneering users have now posted helpful setup videos that drastically flatten what used to be a painfully steep learning curve.
Unboxing and Build Quality
Out of the box, the first impression is surprisingly premium. Unlike cheap, hollow-feeling competitors, the Linkind panels feel dense and structurally solid, almost like single laminated units. When turned off, a frosted white casing minimizes the presence of the bezels. Each panel features “Any-Side Connect” versatility, with six underlying connection points providing excellent creative freedom to build anything from compact zig-zags to expansive geometric accent pieces.

The Setup and Learning Curve
While the hardware is impressive, the actual installation process is where you will face a steep learning curve. The box includes a clever, low-tech installation kit: cardboard alignment templates, a tiny spirit level, and heavy-duty double-sided tape. On paper, it sounds simple: tape the cardboard templates to the wall to outline your pattern, stick the mounting bases inside the cutouts, tear away the cardboard, connect the brackets, and snap the panels on.
In practice, the lack of online resources makes this phase unnecessarily stressful. Because Linkind is a newer player in the modular lighting market, searching YouTube or Reddit for troubleshooting tips yielded a ghost town of results. I felt entirely on my own with a paper manual.
I’m particularly averse to experimenting when it comes to attaching things to (newly decorated) walls. Between you and me, in my house, some strategically placed artwork carefully conceals some very unsightly drilling mistakes!
The learning curve hits hard when handling the rigid linking brackets. They are incredibly snug and feel somewhat fragile; force them in the wrong direction, and you risk snapping a pin. Navigating corners or even minor wall unevenness demands precise planning that the manual doesn’t fully prepare you for. Furthermore, the provided adhesive is intensely sticky—good for a secure hold, but it will greedily take your drywall and paint with it if you make a placement mistake. I had to adopt a slow, deliberate “measure twice, stick once” approach. Pre-planning how you want to configure the panels might be a good idea.

Software Integration and Brightness
Fortunately, once the physical gauntlet is conquered, the software integration promises some relief. The AiDot app utilises Bluetooth for discovery. In my experience, however, “Bluetooth discovering” gadgets have required a saintly level of patience. On a positive note, though, an impressive feat of programming allows the app to automatically map the exact physical layout built on the wall, eliminating the need to manually orient the shapes on your phone screen.
Performance-wise, the EP6 panels are super bright—easily outshining competitors. The colors are rich and deeply saturated. Thanks to advanced colour-mixing, the gradients transition smoothly across individual panels. The built-in music sync modes are incredibly responsive, turning a room into a dynamic visualizer whether you are gaming or hosting a party.
The system does exhibit a few budget-tier quirks. When cranked past 75% brightness, I did notice a slight hum emanating from the panels, which is a minor bugbear in my opinion. Additionally, while the app features robust preset scenes, the custom animation flows can occasionally feel slightly less seamless. However, you will have lots of fun playing around with the colours and experimenting with sound responses.
My Verdict
The Linkind Smart Hexagon Panels represent immense value. For a fraction of the cost of premium brands, you get stunningly bright, structurally robust wall art that transforms your space. You will have to pay a “patience tax” during the installation—navigating a tricky mechanical layout. If you are a patient DIYer willing to tackle the initial setup, the gorgeous visual payoff is entirely worth the effort.
